Interior Alaska DoD Training Land Wildlife Habitat Vulnerability to Permafrost Thaw, an Altered Fire Regime, and Hydrologic Change, RC18-1170, Thomas Douglas

Each year, the SERDP and ESTCP Symposium brings together environmental and energy researchers and technology developers with the defense end-user and regulatory communities to showcase cutting edge environmental technologies and ideas. At the 2021 virtual Symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to attend several sessions focused on Resource Conservation and Resiliency research initiatives, covering topics related to improving Department of Defense (DoD) installation resilience and natural resource management. Tuesday, November 30, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (ET)

Many DoD landscapes are unique and increasingly rare habitats in the United States. This technical session will feature SERDP and ESTCP research focused on DoD managed ecosystems, threatened and endangered species, and the control of invasive species. Wednesday, December 1, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (ET) 

This technical session will focus on research related to the role of environmental security now and in the future of DoD design, planning and policy. Environmental security is the component of national security where environmental conditions may present challenges and opportunities within national security priorities. Wednesday, December 1, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (ET)

The DoD is one of the largest landholders in the United States, covering areas where fire impacts ecosystem health and training land availability. This technical session will focus on maintaining DoD lands for use to ensure military readiness and the health and safety of the force. Thursday, December 2, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (ET) 

Built and natural infrastructure on military installations and lands face threats from long-term changes in climate and ocean conditions. These threats can directly impact the availability of the installation to train and deploy the force. This technical session covers research efforts to develop tools and approaches for improving DoD built and natural infrastructure resilience.
